Bumpy black holes from spontaneous Lorentz violation

چکیده
We consider black holes in Lorentz violating theories of massive gravity. We argue that in these theories black hole solutions are no longer universal and exhibit a large number of hairs. If they exist, these hairs probe the singularity inside the black hole providing a window into quantum gravity. The existence of these hairs can be tested by future gravitational wave observatories. We generically expect that the effects we discuss will be larger for the more massive black holes. In the simplest models the strength of the hairs is controlled by the same parameter that sets the mass of the graviton (tensor modes). Then the upper limit on this mass coming from the inferred gravitational radiation emitted by binary pulsars implies that hairs are likely to be suppressed for almost the entire mass range of the super-massive black holes in the centers of galaxies.

Spontaneous breaking of Lorentz invariance , black holes and perpetuum mobile of the 2 nd kind
We study the effect of spontaneous breaking of Lorentz invariance on black hole thermodynamics. We consider a scenario where Lorentz symmetry breaking manifests itself by the difference of maximal velocities attainable by particles of different species in a preferred reference frame. The Lorentz breaking sector is represented by the ghost condensate. We find that the notions of black hole entro...

Non-commutative field theory as a theory including the Lorentz violation can be constructed in two different ways. In the first method, the non-commutative fields are the same as the ordinary ones while the gauge group is restricted to U(n). For example, the symmetry group of standard model in non-commutative space is U(3)×(2)×U(1) which can be reduced to SU(3)×SU(2)×U(1) by two appropriate spo...

متن کاملOverview of the SME: Implications and Phenomenology of Lorentz Violation
The Standard Model Extension (SME) provides the most general observer-independent field theoretical framework for investigations of Lorentz violation. The SME lagrangian by definition contains all Lorentz-violating interaction terms that can be written as observer scalars and that involve particle fields in the Standard Model and gravitational fields in a generalized theory of gravity. This inc...
متن کاملSpontaneous Lorentz Breaking at High Energies
Theories that spontaneously break Lorentz invariance also violate diffeomorphism symmetries, implying the existence of extra degrees of freedom and modifications of gravity. In the minimal model (“ghost condensation”) with only a single extra degree of freedom at low energies, the scale of Lorentz violation cannot be larger than about M ∼ 100 GeV due to an infrared instability in the gravity se...
